Butlins Minehead To Stage UK Open

Butlins Minehead To Stage UK Open

As I posted in June (rumours from my sources), The UK Open Televised Finals are to move to the Butlins Minehead Resort next year, to be held from March 7-9 at the Somerset venue live on ITV Sport.  The good news is there will still be amateur qualifiers for the event, so it won’t lose that unique charm!

The UK Open, nicknamed “The FA Cup of Darts” due to it’s open draw format which brings together top professionals and amateur qualifiers has been held in Bolton for the past decade, with this year’s most recent event being won by Phil Taylor, who claimed his fifth title in the event.

Following the PDC’s new deal with ITV Sport which includes live coverage of the UK Open next year, the multi-board tournament has been brought forward to be played across three days from Friday March 7-Sunday March 9.

The event will be preceded by six UK Open Qualifiers for professional players, which will be held on two treble-header weekends.

The first weekend of Qualifiers will be held from February 7-9 at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan, with the second weekend being staged from February 21-23 at the Rivermead Centre in Reading.

A series of qualifying events for amateur players will also be held, with details to be confirmed later in 2013.

Weekend break packages to watch the 2014 UK Open Televised Finals are available now through the Butlins Big Weekends website at http://www.bigweekends.com/your-break/121605  <- now correctly shows the UK Open details!

Webmaster of this any many darts websites, darts fan, bad darts player (45 average), I play for Stilton Country Club, real ale and craft beer fan, CAMRA Member. WordPress 'guru'.

I have created and write for the official sites for many PDC players, including; Justin Pipe, Terry Jenkins, Kevin Painter, Dean Winstanley, Stuart Kellett, Steve Brown, Ian Wight & Jamie Caven.

I run this site as a hobby in free time, it's not for profit (in fact like many fans, darts costs me a lot every year!).

Just leaving my current job as Lead Developer at New Scientist, so looking for an interesting new role - if any darts companies/breweries are out there who want an all round web guy - who can put together, run, and write content for, who also knows how to use social media to promote in a fun and engaging way, get in touch! Obviously other sectors are out there - but if you want the skills and the knowledge, I know darts and beer!
