European Darts Championships – Saturday results
I’ve not got much time for a proper review… those will have to come tomorrow morning. Saturday afternoon has seen some good darts. Ronnie Baxter probably the highlight of the play, with some great scoring and doubles (100+ average). Wayne Jones continues his good run on TV (about time!), with a win over Robert Thornton.
UPDATE: I’m so happy for Jamie ‘Jabba’ Caven – a fantastic win today, and it’s about time we saw him having a great TV tournament.

European Championships – Night 1 results and review
Phew what a night – as Bravo TV televised their very first ever darts tournament. While there was some technical hitches (new hamsters needed on the computer scoreboard me thinks!!), the coverage overall was very good I thought. Some experienced pundits and commentators, with a style that I thought was very good (a little less excitable than Sky’s coverage perhaps?).
Loved seeing Chris Mason back on the screens, and Alan WL always does a good job too.
The biggest surprise for me was when I received a text message from Bravo TV asking if I’d run their twitter account for the night, as they weren’t able to do it this evening (normal service should be back tomorrow). So apologies if my constant score updates and player comments were not to your cup of tea
It was good fun anyway.
Also I was jumping up and down as the first question put to a player was mine, and my name was read out by Dave Gorman – haha, fame at last!
Anyway – onto the evenings results, and remember it all carries on tomorrow night from 7pm on Bravo TV. Follow their twitter if you can’t watch some/all of the games to keep track of the evenings games.
Thursday July 29
First Round
Paul Nicholson 3-6 Andy Smith
Mark Walsh 6-3 Antonio Alcinas
Terry Jenkins 6-4 Andree Welge
Simon Whitlock 6-3 Dennis Priestley
Gary Anderson 2-6 Jamie Caven
Phil Taylor 6-2 Co Stompe
Jelle Klaasen 6-4 Vincent van der Voort
Mervyn King 3-6 Barrie Bates
Personal highlights for me is my mate Jamie Caven winning through to round 2 – although it was a shame to see Gary Anderson still suffering with a dodgy shoulder.
Final PDC UK Open Standings – all the qualifiers
A TOTAL of 96 professional players have qualified for the UK Open Finals, which will be held at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton from June 3-6.

Mark Walsh, top seed, and top floor player!
Eight Qualifiers, each worth £31,600 in prize money, have been held over the past three months for professionals to earn their places in the tournament.
The top 96 players from the UK Open Order of Merit who have played in a minimum of three Qualifiers now win places in the Sky Sports-televised UK Open Finals.
Mark Walsh was the leading player from the eight qualifiers, earning £15,200 prize money which included two £6,000 event wins, while reigning UK Open champion Phil Taylor won £15,000 from three events played, having won two Qualifiers and lost in the final of the other.
The top 32 players enter the UK Open, nicknamed ‘The FA Cup of Darts’ at the Third Round stage on Friday June 4 at the Reebok Stadium.
However, the tournament - unique for the free draw format which means top players can be drawn together at any stage - begins on Thursday June 3 with the Preliminary Round, First Round and Second Round.

The Second Round will feature the First Round’s 32 winners alongside the players ranked from 33-64 in the UK Open Order of Merit, who include 2004 UK Open champion Roland Scholten, Wayne Mardle, Peter Manley and the totesport.com Players Championship winner Paul Nicholson.
The players tied on £2,300 placed 31-34 in the UK Open Order of Merit were separated by a count-back of prize money won in the previous four tournaments, while Raymond van Barneveld did not qualify having not competed in the requisite three Qualifiers.
The 96 professionals are joined in the UK Open by 32 Rileys Amateur Qualifiers, who have won through knockout qualifiers held in Rileys Darts Zones around the UK, and the BDO County representatives.
The draw for the Preliminary Round, First Round & Second Round will be made on Thursday May 13 and published at www.pdc.tv. The Third Round draw will be made at the close of play in the Second Round on Thursday June 3 in Bolton.

Whitlock wins back to back player championships in Derby
Back-to-back Players Championship wins for Whitlock today – quite an amazing feat, especially has he had to beat Phil Taylor on the way to the title! Simon Whitlock really is now turning on the style – he clinched the day with an 11 darter against Colin Lloyd, who must be pleased with his days work.
130 players competed for the £31,600 prize fund at the Moorways Centre, Derby, with Co Stompe and Aodhagan O’Neill unable to travel due to the flight disruption caused by the ash cloud from a volcanic eruption in Iceland – dust effecting darts, whatever next!?
Krispy special mentions today go to Paul Nicholson (who recently did an interview here), who beat Mark Walsh (one of THE consitent floor players), and then Kevin Painter 6-0 in the quarter finals! Wayne Jones again reached another quarter final – another of the players you never want to meet in a tournament.

UK Open Qualifier 5 – Mark Walsh Wins again
MARK WALSH won his second UK Open Qualifier of 2010 with a 6-3 defeat of John Part at the Barnsley Metrodome. It’s also a good day for John Part, who has finally had a good day at the office in 2010. I wasn’t surprised to see Jamie Caven in the semi’s – he’s having a great 2010, and another strong floor player, Wayne Jones was the other.
Walsh repeated his success of six weeks ago in Derby to claim a second £6,000 title of the year, overpowering the three-time World Champion in the decider to move back into the world’s top ten.
The Hertfordshire-based star overcame Patrick Pace, Colin Lloyd and Stuart Bousfield in the early rounds in Derby, before being pushed all the way to a deciding leg in his next three matches, against Mervyn King, Co Stompe and Wayne Jones.
His semi-final against Jones, in particular, proved hard work as Jones hit back from 5-2 down with finishes of 158 and 120 – as Walsh waited on a double – before levelling with a 13-darter, only for Walsh to prevail.

Players championship 6 – Lewis hits the Jackpot
Another new winner for this years Players championship – as tournament 6 was dominated by Adrian Lewis, with a 6-4 win over Mark Walsh in the final of Sunday’s German Darts Classic Players Championship. Some people doubt Adrian’s bottle when he’s gone behind, but he proved he’s made of stern stuff these days, coming from 4-3 down to take three successive legs in winning the final against the tough Mark Walsh.
It just goes to show that form can change overnight, as Saturday’s champion Vincent van der Voort was a last 32 loser to fellow Dutchman Co Stompe, and Wayne Jones – the runner-up 24 hours earlier – was a first round casualty to German Bernd Roith. Mervyn King, one of the form players of 2010, had a fine win 6-2 against Kevin Painter, but went out 4th round 6-0 to the Scot Gary Anderson – who then went on to beat James wade 6-0 too.
Well done to all the players – onto Wigan for next weeks round.

UK Open qualifier 2 – Walsh cuts the Power!
Day two in Derby, and this time the two weekend events have been shared between two players rather than last weeks domination by Mervyn King. Congratulations go to Mark Walsh, who beats Phil Taylor 6-2 in the UK Open qualifier final. Phil beat a string of players 6-1 on the way to the final – including Andy Hamilton in the semi, but he came unstuck against Walsh.
My special mention today goes to Co Stompe – who made it to the last 4. Co is hard not to like when I’ve seen him on TV – a real gentleman of the sport, who appears to believe the paying fans are just as important to darts as the players. Co had a great win against James Wade 6-1 – but didn’t have enough to beat Mark Walsh – who took him 6-4 (after losing a 4-1 lead).
Third Round
Stuart Dutton 6-2 Wayne Atwood
Adrian Lewis 6-3 Mark Frost
Andy Hamilton 6-3 Darren Webster
Gary Anderson 6-4 Stephen Hardy
