Crawley Player Championships – Results
I’ve not kept up with posting the results here over the weekend, as I was in Crawley myself enjoying the darts close up and personal (Thanks to Justin Pipe). There’s nothing quite like being at a pro tour event – and it still feels like being a kid in a sweetshop. I’ll write a personal recap of the weekend in a separate article – so for now, here’s the results of the two days.
Day 1 – Saturday
A ‘surprise’ name got to the final on Saturday - Steve Farmer. Although fellow forum members have told me that they’d seen him play and were surprised he’d not had a long run in a floor tournament. I did get to congratulate Farmer on his great performances back at the hotel – and he was beaming, totally made up. The money he earned for reaching the final puts him up the PC rankings, and gives him a chance for some TV tournaments. But it was won by Adrian Lewis – who has received some critism from fans in recent months for his poor TV performances. Adrian was VERY happy with the win, and let out a lot of emotion after he threw the winning darts.
The Stoke star edged his first two matches with deciding leg victories over Wayne Atwood and Steve Maish.. to be honest, Lewis was lucky, as Steve Maish left himself 96 with Lewis on 161.. and Lewis took that 161 out with bull finish to win 6-5. But Lewis got better as the day went on, and his flashes of brilliance turned longer and longer. He averaged 108 to win the final (Farmer was on 110!).
Quarter Finals
Steve Farmer 6-3 Mark Dudbridge
Gary Anderson 6-4 Wayne Jones
Vincent van der Voort 6-5 Mervyn King

Day 2 – Sunday
Jamie Caven had another long run in Sunday’s tournament – reaching the semi final (after the win and final in Canada), and a 9 dart leg! (adding another £2,800 to his winnings).
Colin Lloyd continues his great 2010 form, with another win on the pro tour – the floor appears to be Colin’s at the moment!

Jamie Caven 6-3 Co Stompe
Alan Tabern 6-4 Paul Nicholson

Player Championships – Jaws Bites In Canadian Masters
Well the 2nd day of player championships in Canada have finished, and the results are in…
For a while I thought my mate Jamie Caven was going to do the double, as he won through to the final. But Colin ‘Jaws’ Lloyd was too strong – showing that his recent top form continues. Also I must say a big well done to my mate Steve Maish, who had a great weekend too, after a round 3 he made the last 4 today – which is a great result and some good ranking £’s in the bank. Maish’s display was his best run since reaching a Players Championship semi-final in March, and included deciding leg wins against Barrie Bates and Dennis Priestley as well as a defeat of world number nine Mark Walsh.
Mark Dudbridge and Kevin Painter reached the quarter-finals for the second time over the weekend before losing to Newton and Lloyd respectively, while Newton was appearing in his second semi-final in as many days.

Player championship – Jamie Caven wins in Canada
Well I was out late last night, and missed the results coming in from Canada until this morning. I was chuffed to read through the results being discussed on The Stars of Darts forum, to find out that my mate Jamie ‘Jabba’ Caven won the top £5,000 prize, which is a fantastic result (and spare a thought for his wife Debbie, who has to sit/pace at home waiting for the delayed results just like everyone else!).
Jame beat Michael van Gerwen, who had a great run to get to the final, racking up some much needed ranking points.
Special mention has got to go to Mark Hylton, who beat Mark Walsh in round 3. Dennis Priestly continues his amazing recent form (after winning the PC in Australia) with a semi-final appearance.

European Darts Championships – Last days Results and preview
A great day of darts yesterday, and a really busy one today. The finalists will have to get through 3 games to claim the title and the cash today – so stamina will pay a part.
In the first game my loyalties come first – my man Jamie ‘Jabba’ Caven will be who I’m cheering on (while trying to stay neutral on the Bravo_darts twitter I am covering the games on!). Jamie is an amazing player, and has overcome what lesser men would have given in to, becoming a star of the darts scene. Jenkins has thrown off some of his recent poor form to get to the semi, but if Caven can play like he did yesterday, I think he’s got it in the bag. Good luck today mate!
I’m split over the next semi – I’ve got Ronnie Baxter in my fantasy darts team over at The Stars of Darts forum… but Colin is another Gent of the game. Colin has been playing really well too – while Baxter has been a little hot n cold. I think Lloyd may just pinch it.
Taylor vs. Walsh.. what a game. Walsh has played Taylor enough to know his game well, and hopefully not be scared of him. It’s the king of the floor vs. the king of the TV tournaments… could be a belter. I think the Power will win though.
Barney vs. a TV confident Jones – another possible belter. Wayne Jones like Mark Walsh is a master of the tungsten on the floor, but who has previously found the TV scene tough. But this tournament that doesn’t seem to be an issue for him. Close… but Barneveld to win I think – who knows, maybe a 9 darter too
Remember to follow the official @BRAVO_darts twitter for all the scores and more – especially as it’s me doing it, and I’ve been keeping off the ale to keep my spelling straight (ish) !! There’s also a gallery here of images taken by Bravo – including some behind the scenes.

Semi Finals
Evening session begins 7pm UK time, Order of play to be confirmed by toss of a coin

European Darts Championships – Day 3 Preview
Two sessions of darts on Bravo TV today, starting at 1pm and 7pm (UK Time, add 1 hour if you’re out in Germany). There were a couple of shocks last night – with local German Roith going through. I wonder if there will be any big name losses today.
There are 8 games in total, as we are now on the last 16… and the format is best of 19 legs (first to 10 if you’re still hungover!).
As per the last two nights, yours truly (Krispy) will be on the official @Bravo_darts twitter – so if you can’t get to a TV or don’t have the Bravo channel, follow along on twitter and you’ll know all the scores pretty much as they happen, plus some stats and random thoughts of mine
Also check out presenter Dave Gorman’s blog where he discusses teething problems and the scoreboard! http://gormano.blogspot.com/2010/07/bread-cheese-beer-and-darts.html
Afternoon Session
1.00pm Mark Walsh v Jelle Klaasen
2.00pm Terry Jenkins v Simon Whitlock
3.00pm Ronnie Baxter v Wes Newton
4.00pm Wayne Jones v Robert Thornton
Evening Session
7.00pm Barrie Bates v Jamie Caven
8.00pm Raymond van Barneveld v Bernd Roith
9.00pm Phil Taylor v Andy Smith
10.00pm Colin Lloyd v Michael van Gerwen
I myself can’t see Terry Jenkins beating Simon Whitlock – the Wizard will have too much for the Bull – esp as Germany seems to be the place for beard power! I’m rooting for my mate Jamie Caven this evening – although I could never wish Barry Bates ill, he’s a real fun character of the game. It will be intresting to see how the crowd react to watching their own man Bernd Roith throw against Barney this evening – although I can’t see anything other than a win for van Barneveld there. Another re-match between Taylor and the Pieman – as it’s now first to 10 and slightly longer format I think it will be the power all the way there. Game of the day could be Lloyd vs. van Gerwen – as Mighty Mike seemed to gain some confidence last night.
European Championships – Night 1 results and review
Phew what a night – as Bravo TV televised their very first ever darts tournament. While there was some technical hitches (new hamsters needed on the computer scoreboard me thinks!!), the coverage overall was very good I thought. Some experienced pundits and commentators, with a style that I thought was very good (a little less excitable than Sky’s coverage perhaps?).
Loved seeing Chris Mason back on the screens, and Alan WL always does a good job too.
The biggest surprise for me was when I received a text message from Bravo TV asking if I’d run their twitter account for the night, as they weren’t able to do it this evening (normal service should be back tomorrow). So apologies if my constant score updates and player comments were not to your cup of tea
It was good fun anyway.
Also I was jumping up and down as the first question put to a player was mine, and my name was read out by Dave Gorman – haha, fame at last!
Anyway – onto the evenings results, and remember it all carries on tomorrow night from 7pm on Bravo TV. Follow their twitter if you can’t watch some/all of the games to keep track of the evenings games.
Thursday July 29
First Round
Paul Nicholson 3-6 Andy Smith
Mark Walsh 6-3 Antonio Alcinas
Terry Jenkins 6-4 Andree Welge
Simon Whitlock 6-3 Dennis Priestley
Gary Anderson 2-6 Jamie Caven
Phil Taylor 6-2 Co Stompe
Jelle Klaasen 6-4 Vincent van der Voort
Mervyn King 3-6 Barrie Bates
Personal highlights for me is my mate Jamie Caven winning through to round 2 – although it was a shame to see Gary Anderson still suffering with a dodgy shoulder.
World Match Play – day 1 preview by Krispy
Well it’s that time again – when darts fans either travel miles with tickets in hand, or stock up the fridge with booze and open the nibbles – IT’S DARTS TIME!
The world match play is another fans favourite, with only 32 of the best battling it out for big money. Even getting through to the first round is worth a hefty chunk of change, and can help push a player up the all important rankings.
Saturday sees 4 games on show, all best of 19 legs (first to 10 if your maths isn’t very good
). So that’s a lot of darts on offer. There’s some well known names – if you’re a premier league only sort of darts fan than Barney and Ronnie Baxter will be no stranger to you, and I’d hope Dennis Priestly too, being a legend of the game.
The first game will be a clash of throwing speed – Dennis is one of the slower throwers in the game, and Vincent about the fastest! I can’t see Dennis being put off with all his experience, but Vincent might need to prepare himself and alter his routine… and not rush his throw even for him in impatience. Vincent may shave this one, as he’s had some fantastic floor form this year, winning a lot of money in the players championships.
Next up is Osborne vs. Jones… Wayne is an awesome floor player (very consistent), and Osborne has been out of form recently (for understandable reasons Colin, and I wish you all the best). I think tonight may be a turning point for Osborne’s year, as he seems to bring something extra to the TV.
Big game next, mainly because of how well Denis Ovens has been playing recently, on and off the TV (he had a storming UK Open). I’ve seen Ovens play on the floor this year, and he’s firing with confidence. Barney …. well we all know how good he is, but also how his form can change. He’s a bit of a wildcard for me in this event – he’s taken a lot of time off darts since the premier league… no floor tournaments.. no qualification for the UK Open… and he was out in South Africa watching the Netherlands at the world cup. Has the rest given him that spark he has been lacking? We shall see tonight!

Last game up is a big one for me personally – I’ve always liked Baxter, as he’s always smiling and seems such a nice bloke. BUT I’ve got to support my mate Jabba, as he’s a friend of this website, and always makes time for me. Plus he’s actually a farking talented chucker of the dart! Jamie’s been rising up the rankings all year, getting some good solid results. This could be the start of his rise into the top elite.. we shall see!
Tonights games on Sky TV;
- 7.10pm Dennis Priestley v Vincent van der Voort
- 8.00pm Colin Osborne v Wayne Jones
- 9.00pm Raymond van Barneveld v Denis Ovens
- 10.00pm Ronnie Baxter v Jamie Caven
World Matchplay Schedule of Play and Krispy Preview
The PDC have released the full schedule of play for the upcoming World Matchplay tournament in Blackpool (and on Sky Sports of course!). The world match play is a ‘high value’ tournament for prize money, with only 32 players qualified to play. A lot of the usual suspects are there, along with some cracking players who are masters on the floor but maybe not so famous for TV fans of darts.
Every game will be a cracker, and there are some really interesting match-ups; the very first game of the tournament is a real contrast in styles… Dennis Priestley v Vincent van der Voort. That’s the ‘slow’ and careful throwing of Priestly vs the fast as lightning Vincent.
Darts fans who get most of their darts fix from the TV may think that Ronnie Baxter has it all his own way against Jamie Caven, but I know that’s far from the case – as my mate Jabba is really getting better all the time, and the Rocket will know he’s got a real fight on his hands! I have to call that a win for Jamie (sorry Ronnie!), but it should be a belter.
What a test for Barney, as he plays the re-invigorated Denis Ovens! A few months ago most people would have called for Baneveld, but after his break from darts, and the recent performances from Ovens, it’s going to be much harder to call. It all depends if the break has been good for Barney! His army of fans will have to wait n see!
If I was a betting man, I might be tipping Steve Brown to beat Terry Jenkins round 1… The Bull is obviously well known on TV.. but Steve ‘the bomber’ Brown is fast rising up the rankings.. and Jenkins hasn’t been playing well for a while. If you dare risk you £’s at my say so, pop a few quid on the Bomber! (oh and here’s an interview with the Bomber )

MDA presents Phil Taylor and Jamie Caven, exhibition report
I’ve had a report back from a big darts exhibition run by MDA Promotions – which was a chance to see (and PLAY) Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor in action, taking on Jamie Caven and others. MDA are running some BIG exhibitions around the Leciester/midlands area, with some big names taking part. I myself will hopefully be going along to their exhibition in Derby in November, which is just before the Player championships there that weekend.
Thursday June 10th 2010, and a packed house of 400+ squeezed into Ibstock Working Mens Club to witness Phil The Power Taylor play a rare exhibition. Fresh from winning the UK open last weekend “The Power” took on members of the audience and local celebrity snooker player Mark Selby and Jamie “Jabba” Caven.
Mark Selby and Phil Taylor opened the night with a one leg shootout in front of the BBC cameras which Phil just scraped through (mark left on 237). Phil only dropped one leg against the crowd the opening leg with Andy Crane checking out 115 on double 18. The next 9 legs against the audience Phil won with a 121.56 average including 2 ten darters! His victims including Fred Bowers of Britains got talent fame, even though fred had the distinct advantage of walking up to the board and putting the darts in.
Mark Selby and Jamie Caven played together in a pro am which included a head 2 head (Jamie won 2-0) and also pairing up with audience members, which team Caven won 2-0. Mark Selby did him self proud with a lot of tons and 2 140′s.
The Head to Head at the end between Taylor and Caven saw Jamie win 3-0. It was a high scoring affair with Jamie taking out 143 to claim a great scalp. (Krispy: I know Jamie was chuffed with that win, exhibition or not! I spoke to him personally only 2 days later in Wigan).
Just a quick mention that Phil Taylors fee actually went to the Eddie Cox memorial fun.
Find out more about MDA promotions and their upcoming exhibitions here.
Results from Players Championships in Barnsley
I’ll combined both day’s results in Barnsley – as I was actually there an not able to post yesterday!
I will write a full write-up about my time away watching the games with the players tomorrow, after I’ve had a good rest. I will say a big thanks to Steve ‘Mr Magic’ Maish for having ‘Danger’ and myself there as his guests, and he once again made us feel really welcome! I’ve got an interview with Maishy to post very soon (once I’ve typed it up!).
Anyway – two more big days of darts on the pro-tour – the venue at the Barnsley Metrodome felt better than Wigan – if only for the far bigger toilets!
Saturday 12th June Results
I’ve got to hand it to Gary Anderson, he continued his form from the UK Open with a great day’s play to win the £6,000 winners prize. I would add that stories about him not being able to finish are also over played, as he was hitting his doubles more than well on Saturday.
Anderson’s form was dominant from the start of the event, when he whitewashed Colin Monk and dropped only three legs in defeats of Jamie Atkins and Alan Tabern. He then defeated Jamie Caven 6-2 in the last 16, dropped just one leg against Mervyn King in the quarter-finals before coming from behind to beat Justin Pipe 6-4 in the semis (quite a battle between the good friends).
Special mention to my mate Justin Pipe, who has just won “The Stars of Darts” forum sponsorship, and then took the confidence gained by having a fantastic Saturday. Pipe’s run to the semis was his best-ever run on the PDC ProTour, surpassing a quarter-final appearance he had in March. Justin played and beat a raft of good players (including Simon Whitlock!) – keeping his bottle in a few close ones.
Fourth Round
Mark Walsh 6-2 Denis Ovens
Andy Hamilton 6-3 Steve Beaton
Colin Lloyd 6-4 Vincent van der Voort

Sunday 13th June Results
Ronnie Baxter took out some big shots in the final against Denis Ovens to win Sundays prize money. Denis must be pleased with that final place, after doing so well in the UK Open. I watched Baxter whitewash Adrian Lewis in the semi-final – I don’t think Ade’s mind was quite right for the game, after complaining about the quality of the boards, and getting a replacement put in moments before the game (Adrian’s darts points were sinking completely into the board).
Game of the day for me was Jamie Caven vs. Steve Maish. Maish was 3-0 up playing well… when Jamie took the next three legs and it looked like it was going to be a close one at 3-3. Then Jamie hit a real purple patch, and won the next three legs with 11,11, and 12 darters. He could hardly miss – hitting loads of triple 19′s on his way.
Fourth Round
Denis Ovens 6-2 Wes Newton
Andy Hamilton 6-0 Andy Jenkins
Mark Walsh 6-3 Roland Scholten
Steve Brown 6-1 Vincent van der Voort
Ronnie Baxter 6-2 Simon Whitlock
Dennis Priestley 6-5 Justin Pipe
Alan Tabern 6-5 Gary Anderson
Adrian Lewis 6-2 Joe Cullen

Ronnie Baxter 6-0 Adrian Lewis
