Champion League Darts – Group Two details
Day two today of the Champion League of Darts (which is streamed live on the internet – see HERE for who is showing it). After a great day yesterday for Mervyn King, it’s not such good news today;
UPDATE: Whitlock wins group 2
MERVYN KING has withdrawn from Group Two of Championship League Darts through injury, and is replaced by Colin Osborne. King competed in Group One of the tournament on Tuesday despite a heel problem, finishing top of the league table but losing to Colin Lloyd in the semi-finals.
However, the injury worsened overnight and King has pulled out of the tournament, and will be replaced in Wednesday’s Group Two by Co Stompe. Stompe was one of the three players due to enter the tournament in Group Three, but with Andy Hamilton and Colin Osborne unable to travel to Essex in time for the 10.30am start the Dutchman has stepped in for King
Alan Tabern will now enter in Group Three, with Kevin Painter and Dennis Priestley – who had sat above the St Helens man in the rankings when the tournament’s invitations were issued after the StanJames.com World Matchplay – unable to compete on Thursday.

Champion League Darts – Group One Starts Today
An “internet broadcasted only” PDC Darts tournament starts today – “The Champion League Darts”. Info and RESULTS here during the day. UPDATE: Day 1 has been won by the one and only, Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor, with a 6-2 win over Colin Lloyd (another great days work from Colin after winning on the pro tour on Sunday!).
THE 2010 Championship League Darts begins on Tuesday, as eight of the world’s top players battle for £200,000 in prize money in the internet-streamed tournament.
Stars such as Phil Taylor, James Wade, Simon Whitlock and Mervyn King are used to battling in front of thousands of fans around the UK in major PDC tournaments, but will be playing behind closed doors across the nine days of Championship League Darts.
The internet-streamed event sees eight eight-player groups contested during September and October, with each of the group winners then competing for the £10,000 first prize in the Winners Group. However, prize money per leg won is also awarded throughout the event, starting at £50 per leg in the groups as the players compete in a round-robin format.
The top four players from each group contest the play-offs, where they won £100 per leg, and each day’s winner progresses to the Winners Group on October 14. Each day also sees the bottom two players after the round-robin stage eliminated, with the players finishing from second-sixth progressing to the next group and joined by three more stars.
Championship League Darts is streamed exclusively live around the world through 16 bookmakers’ websites, as well as to PDCtv subscribers at the PDC’s official website, www.pdc.tv.

Crawley Player Championships – Results
I’ve not kept up with posting the results here over the weekend, as I was in Crawley myself enjoying the darts close up and personal (Thanks to Justin Pipe). There’s nothing quite like being at a pro tour event – and it still feels like being a kid in a sweetshop. I’ll write a personal recap of the weekend in a separate article – so for now, here’s the results of the two days.
Day 1 – Saturday
A ‘surprise’ name got to the final on Saturday - Steve Farmer. Although fellow forum members have told me that they’d seen him play and were surprised he’d not had a long run in a floor tournament. I did get to congratulate Farmer on his great performances back at the hotel – and he was beaming, totally made up. The money he earned for reaching the final puts him up the PC rankings, and gives him a chance for some TV tournaments. But it was won by Adrian Lewis – who has received some critism from fans in recent months for his poor TV performances. Adrian was VERY happy with the win, and let out a lot of emotion after he threw the winning darts.
The Stoke star edged his first two matches with deciding leg victories over Wayne Atwood and Steve Maish.. to be honest, Lewis was lucky, as Steve Maish left himself 96 with Lewis on 161.. and Lewis took that 161 out with bull finish to win 6-5. But Lewis got better as the day went on, and his flashes of brilliance turned longer and longer. He averaged 108 to win the final (Farmer was on 110!).
Quarter Finals
Steve Farmer 6-3 Mark Dudbridge
Gary Anderson 6-4 Wayne Jones
Vincent van der Voort 6-5 Mervyn King
Adrian Lewis 6-5 Mark Webster
Losers £1,000

Day 2 – Sunday
Jamie Caven had another long run in Sunday’s tournament – reaching the semi final (after the win and final in Canada), and a 9 dart leg! (adding another £2,800 to his winnings).
Colin Lloyd continues his great 2010 form, with another win on the pro tour – the floor appears to be Colin’s at the moment!

Alan Tabern 6-4 Paul Nicholson

Player Championships – Jaws Bites In Canadian Masters
Well the 2nd day of player championships in Canada have finished, and the results are in…
For a while I thought my mate Jamie Caven was going to do the double, as he won through to the final. But Colin ‘Jaws’ Lloyd was too strong – showing that his recent top form continues. Also I must say a big well done to my mate Steve Maish, who had a great weekend too, after a round 3 he made the last 4 today – which is a great result and some good ranking £’s in the bank. Maish’s display was his best run since reaching a Players Championship semi-final in March, and included deciding leg wins against Barrie Bates and Dennis Priestley as well as a defeat of world number nine Mark Walsh.
Mark Dudbridge and Kevin Painter reached the quarter-finals for the second time over the weekend before losing to Newton and Lloyd respectively, while Newton was appearing in his second semi-final in as many days.

Player championship – Jamie Caven wins in Canada
Well I was out late last night, and missed the results coming in from Canada until this morning. I was chuffed to read through the results being discussed on The Stars of Darts forum, to find out that my mate Jamie ‘Jabba’ Caven won the top £5,000 prize, which is a fantastic result (and spare a thought for his wife Debbie, who has to sit/pace at home waiting for the delayed results just like everyone else!).
Jame beat Michael van Gerwen, who had a great run to get to the final, racking up some much needed ranking points.
Special mention has got to go to Mark Hylton, who beat Mark Walsh in round 3. Dennis Priestly continues his amazing recent form (after winning the PC in Australia) with a semi-final appearance.

Player Championships – The Menace wins in Australia
It looks like the trip to Australia has been well worth it for Dennis Priestly, as he has use the chance to win their leg of the Players Championship pro tour, taking the £5,000 top prize. Dennis beat Paul Nicholson in a tight semi final (6-5), and Simon Whitlock the round before, so it was no easy draw for him! The prize money could help see Priestly make the world grand prix in Ireland later this year.
In previous days in the warm up tournaments before the Player Championships event saw both Robert Thornton and Tony Eccles win – which unfortunately did not count towards the PC OOM, but still were good wins for the pair.

Whitlock’s Oceanic Masters Glory – the Wizard gets lucky in Oz

Whitlock back to winning ways in Australia
It’s a quite month in the UK for the PDC this August, so many players are getting in a well earned rest, or touring the Exhibtion scene. Not Simon Whitlock though!
SIMON WHITLOCK has won his second DPA Oceanic Masters title, defeating Shane Tichowtisch 6-5 in the final.
Whitlock followed up his previous victory in the tournament, in 2002, by edging out his fellow countryman in Sunday’s final to claim the $2,000 first prize.
The Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship finalist enjoyed a successful return to action on home soil at the Illawarra Yacht Club in New South Wales, with his deciding-leg win over Tichowitsch following up some other fine victories.
He saved his best, though, for last to take out a 12-darter in the 11th leg, when with the scores tied at five-all he threw 100, 180 and 180 against the throw to leave 41, which he checked out for victory.
Whitlock had defeated Craig Prizeman 6-2 in the semi-finals, dropped just one leg against New Zealand’s Phil Hazell in the quarter-finals and also defeated Bill Aitken and Jeremy Fagg in the latter stages.
Tichowitsch, who took home $900 as runner-up, defeated another former Oceanic Masters winner, Barry Jouannet, 6-2 in the semis.
He also defeated Paul Nicholson 6-3 in the last 16, as well as seeing off Wayne Weening and Jerry Weyman. DPA Order of Merit leader Rob Modra was amongst the quarter-final losers, alongside Ian Dargan.
The Oceanic Masters preceded a week of events in Australia which will culminate next Sunday in the PDC ranked Australian Open Players Championship, with play commencing on Wednesday at the Revesby Workers Club, NSW in the two-day Linddales Fours event, which will be followed by two Australian Grand Prix events.
American Darts Organisation – National results
There’s been some big darts matches over in America, so I thought it would be good to bring you the results, especially as some of the names will be known to most PDC darts fans, and some names will be ones to look out for!
Congratulations go to…
Womens national champion
Stacy Bromberg wins her 11th ADO 501 Championship and 14th total overall! That goes on top of her recent PDC Womens world title – well don Stacy!
Mens national champion
Darin Young – ‘Big Daddy’ wins the mens title – another player who has had some success and time on our TV screens in PDC tournaments in the past. Darin beat Christian Haggmark in their final.
Youth national champion
A big congratulations to Miles Gallagher, who not only won the ADO youth championship, but also had to beat his own brother in the semi-finals to get there. I know their dad is extremely proud (He posts on The Stars of Darts forum). Miles beat Tyler Meares in the final
European Darts Championships – Last days Results and preview
A great day of darts yesterday, and a really busy one today. The finalists will have to get through 3 games to claim the title and the cash today – so stamina will pay a part.
In the first game my loyalties come first – my man Jamie ‘Jabba’ Caven will be who I’m cheering on (while trying to stay neutral on the Bravo_darts twitter I am covering the games on!). Jamie is an amazing player, and has overcome what lesser men would have given in to, becoming a star of the darts scene. Jenkins has thrown off some of his recent poor form to get to the semi, but if Caven can play like he did yesterday, I think he’s got it in the bag. Good luck today mate!
I’m split over the next semi – I’ve got Ronnie Baxter in my fantasy darts team over at The Stars of Darts forum… but Colin is another Gent of the game. Colin has been playing really well too – while Baxter has been a little hot n cold. I think Lloyd may just pinch it.
Taylor vs. Walsh.. what a game. Walsh has played Taylor enough to know his game well, and hopefully not be scared of him. It’s the king of the floor vs. the king of the TV tournaments… could be a belter. I think the Power will win though.
Barney vs. a TV confident Jones – another possible belter. Wayne Jones like Mark Walsh is a master of the tungsten on the floor, but who has previously found the TV scene tough. But this tournament that doesn’t seem to be an issue for him. Close… but Barneveld to win I think – who knows, maybe a 9 darter too
Remember to follow the official @BRAVO_darts twitter for all the scores and more – especially as it’s me doing it, and I’ve been keeping off the ale to keep my spelling straight (ish) !! There’s also a gallery here of images taken by Bravo – including some behind the scenes.
