Alex Roy competition – a lucky winner drawn
I’ve drawn the winner for the Alex Roy darts today. Alex set the question himself when he did the interview for me, and it was a real tough bugger! In fact it was so tough that only two people got it right!! So it was 50-50 when I drew out the names for the virtual hat.
The lucky winner was Ryan Goodes from Cambridgeshire, who should be receiving the darts very soon, so watch out for the postman.
The question was; Who did Alex Roy beat in his 1st TV appearance?
The answer is; Rod Harrington
Special mention and bad luck to Mike Crowe who did get the answer right.
If you fancy getting a set of Alex’s new darts without having to answer a really tough darts question, you can pop over to Red Dragon darts and get yourself some darting precision.
I’m sure there will be more competitions coming up – so keep an eye out for them! Cheers, Krispy
Competition: Win a set of Alex Roy darts!

I’ve had a very quick quality test, and I must say they feel pretty fantastic in the hand – especially if you like thiner high density darts. Some nice details on them too. As with all Red Dragon darts, the build quality is pretty special.

Winner of the Simon Whitlock darts competition
We have a winner of the Red Dragon Simon Whitlock darts competition… *insert your own drumroll*…
Ross Porter – for his ‘Here for the Beer’ Muttley flight design.
Congratulations Ross – the darts will be on their way to you – hope they fly better than Muttleys
Special mention to some great runner up designs; Ade Mason’s ‘Apollo’ flights (was very close to a winner), Edward Webster for a very funny Simon Whitlock design.
If you fancy a set of Simon Whitlock’s darts yourself, head over to Red Dragon – who have the entire range.
Win Simon Whitlock darts here at “Darts, Beers & Cheers!”
It’s competition time again!
*** COMPETITION CLOSED ***
Thanks to Red Dragon Darts, we have another great darting prize – the lovely ‘gold tipped’ Simon Whitlock darts (22 gram). The darts feel fantastic in the hand, quite smooth but with some grip (so not a heavy gripped dart). The barrels are quite thick, so spread the weight well (they feel lighter than my 22 gram Merv Kings for example)
The darts are brand new, with only 9 test throws by myself to ensure they fly OK
You can see in the pictures that the darts come with a nice soft leather case, two sets of Red Dragon flights, and two sets of stems (red and black).
How to enter the competition?
Something different this time… I want you to design a set of flights – let your imagination run wild. Fun, serious, favourite player theme… whatever you think will impress me! (nothing X rated please!) Get yourself over to the Red Dragon flight designer (pretty swish it is too), and create a design.
You can pick any either of the flight shapes, it’s up to you! The designer lets you add text (colour it, turn it on any angle), and upload images. Once you have a design you like, use the old “alt & printscreen” button combination to take a screen-shot, paste it into any paint package, and save it to a jpeg format (hopefully your software will let you do that!).

Take a screenshot of your design (alt & printscreen buttons together), paste into a drawing package and save to jpeg. Then e-mail to me at webmaster@pdc-darts.co.uk
Rules and stuff
I will accept TWO designs per person.
*** COMPETITION CLOSED ***
..by midnight, Wednesday 9th June (just over a week from posting this). I should contact the winner by the end of Thursday night (to give me some judging time).
The design should be non X rated, i.e. nothing too shocking please, I want to show the design off on this site
I will TRY and get the prize out Friday 11th June – otherwise it will be the following Monday as I am at the darts over that weekend
You don’t need to send me your address until I contact you if you have won.
The Red Dragon designer must be used for your designs to be considered, and my decisions are final.
Good luck! I look forward to seeing your design(s). Krispy.
Competition at Darts, Beers & Cheers; Win Merv King darts
COMPETITION CLOSED – WINNER DRAWN – CONGRATULATIONS TO OLLY HAWKINS
That’s right, I have a set of the brand new 22 gram Mervyn King darts – thanks to Red Dragon darts who very kindly have agreed to donate prizes for our competitions. Red Dragon darts are the mail order arm of the Winmau and Nodor darts brands – two of the biggest names in darts and darts boards. They sponsor a whole ‘team’ of professional darts players, including Mark Webster, Dennis Priestly, and Mervyn King.
The Prize
I’ve got a set of the new Winmau Mervyn King darts, and they are pretty decent I can tell you… even I can throw them! The design is a more stream-lined version of the original Merv designed ‘bamboo’ shaped barrels, much thinner with the grip less pronounced. That actually makes them more more user friendly (I think the thicker barrels would be harder to get used to), and the build quality is very good.
The barrels sport a smart ‘crown’ mark on them – and they feel heavier than the 22 grams they are. The pack comes with red adonised aluminium shafts, and a set of Mervyn King flights. You can see the darts on the Red Dragon website here – so if you fancy a set and aren’t lucky enough to win, treat yourself!
The Question
OK how can you win this fantastic set of darts? You’ve just got to answer the following question, and e-mail me the answer along with your real name;
Q. WHAT SPECIAL COATING DO THE ‘GOLD’ MERVYN KING DARTS HAVE ON THEM?
Tip: you might find some help on the Red Dragon website somewhere…
The Rules
- The competition closes in just under a week – entries via e-mail in by Midnight (UK Time) Friday 21st May.
- One entry per e-mail address/real name please. E-mail to me (Krispy) using; COMPETITION CLOSED
- My decision is final.
- The winner should be notified via e-mail on Saturday 22nd May – I will require a name and address to post the prizes too, failure to reply within 7 days will forfeit the prize, and I will re-draw a new winner.
GOOD LUCK! Krispy, Darts, Beers & Cheers! & Red Dragon Darts.
Whyte & Mackay goody bag arrives – lucky me!
Nice surprise for me today, as a package arrived at work for me – and inside was a little of the gold stuff…
Not it wasn’t someone mis-sending me their ‘gold for cash’ – it was a ‘Goody Bag’ from Premier League Dart sponsor; Whyte & Mackay! Nice one!
If you are on Twitter or Facebook, you might not have realised that you can follow/be a fan of Whyte & Mackay, and find out all the juicy darts news. Premier League nights are often good fun as the banter goes back and forth on Twitter – and sometimes prizes are handed out for competitions – as in my little bag of booty
In my bag of goodness where some Whyte & Mackay minatures (I’ll put those to good use tonight!), a darts t-shirt, and a set of Premier League branded Unicorn darts – let’s hope they make me play like a Premier League Darts pro!
If you want to chat with other darts fans (and the proud sponsors!) on premier league nights, you better follow Whyte & Mackay ASAP (as you are running out of events) – or join up as a fan on their Facebook page. While you’re at it – you can follow me/Darts, Beers & Cheers on Twitter, or join us on facebook for regular updates and your chance to leave your comments.
James Wade playing fans in Glasgow – competition winners
I had some great feedback from our competitions winners – who won a chance to play world number 3, James Wade at darts in Glasgow, the night before the Whyte & Mackay premier league. I am told that James stayed longer than planned, to ensure he got to play all winners, plus a few extra (luckily one of them being someone who entered the competition here but didn’t win.. but ended up with a ‘prize’ anyway!). James also stayed after to make sure he signed autographs and pose for pictures – and I’m told he was a ‘top bloke’.
Darts, Beers & Cheers Winner Brian said;
I tripped going on stage and he made a good Scottish dig about boozing. I soon wiped the smile off him when I threw in a 160 against him – Quality!!! Made the semi’s, he seemed a top lad which made it all the better.
Nice one Brian, a 160 against a pro must have been SWEET!
I should have more pictures and write up coming, but for now I’ve got a video of Paul (comp runner up who got to play) playing James.
